Me: Anna, help! How do I start off this blog post?
Anna: Umm.. Something in bloom! at Bloom.com
Me: ... fail.
So as you can see.. my inability to start off a blog post is still going on strong this week. This time its not the lack of sleep clouding my writing skills, its the cold I picked up caused by the lack of sleep I'd experienced.
Man, getting old isn't fun.
But you know what is fun? Trying out new beauty products! (How's that for a transition? :P) I recently joined Bloom.com's Beauty Ambassador program and just received my welcome kit to review. Bloom.com is a social beauty site with the idea that they can help customize your shopping experience and recommendations based off of feedback from other woman who are considered your "beauty matches" (basically someone who has similar eye color or skin type).
The great part about Bloom is that in addition to 3 free samples with every order, you also get free shipping for orders $49 and up, and 10% back on every order. The 10% is deposited into your account as Bloomdollars and you can use that amount towards any future purchases. They also have a great return policy - 365 days to try out your product and return if you don't like it.
I'd already placed a few orders on Bloom.com before they launched the Ambassador program, so having this opportunity to team up with them was really like icing on the cake. I know I haven't focused too much on beauty products on the blog before, since the blog is more about personal style, but beauty and make up is an important part of the overall package! And we all know how much I like to review things. :P
In any case.. on to the reviews! :)
The welcome kit was focused on exfoliation - super important to good skin care. It included a Befine Exfoliating Cleanser, a GLAMGLOW Very Sexy Tingling & Exfoliating Mud Mask, and a lip scrub by Sara Happ (launching soon!).
Out of the three my favorite ended up being the GLAMGLOW Very Sexy Tingling & Exfoliating Mud Mask, so I'll start with that one.
From the website:
For glowing, smooth, and radiantly sexy skin, you need a special secret that was designed for the elites of Hollywood. GLAMGLOW Tingling & Exfoliating Mud Mask® is a gentle exfoliating treatment that helps moisturize your skin, stimulate collagen synthesis for a firm appearance, and illuminates your complexion for radiance and a healthy glow. Groundbreaking patent pending TEAOXI® is GLAMGLOW’s proprietary continuous time-release technology, delivering fresh Super-Squalene, EGCG Super-Antioxidants & Polyphenols direct into the mud from the real pieces of tea leaf contained in the mask. With accolades from the likes of Nina Dobrev of The Vampire Diaries, Rockstar Tommy Lee, and Edyta Sliwinska from DWTS, you know this must be the real deal!
I love this product. I've used a few masks in my life time and this was the first one that didn't leave my skin feeling overly dried out afterward. In fact, it was quite the opposite. My skin felt super smooth and soft, even the next day. The best part? I had no shine for a full 24 hours. Miracle! I always have shine issues, and have to constantly touch up my foundation, but I didn't have to do that at all.
According to the instructions, you should leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes. After the first initial minute the mask gets very tight on your skin and it almost feels impossible to move. It has a nice cool, mint sensation and a strong eucalyptus scent. I kind of wish Bf was back from China. I looked a bit like a zombie with the mask on (and may have been making zombie faces in the mirror for like 10 minutes).
My only real complaint was that the mask was difficult to apply. I felt like I had to use up a lot of product just to get my entire face covered. Unfortunately I used up most of the tube I'd been given in just one application. Other than that, this mask gets an A+ in my book. It is a bit expensive, but I think it'll be worth the splurge. The no shine benefit is really a plus. Looks like I'm going to have to sacrifice buying a couple pairs of shoes to get this again in the future!
From the website:
Does your skin need a little polish to make it look and feel years younger? Befine Exfoliating Cleanser takes your face from dull and lifeless to refreshed and alive in just minutes. It gently removes impurities, washes away dead skin cells, and even reduces the effect of damaged skin. This non-irritating, skin-polishing cleanser is like a mini-facial that you can use every day!
Overall I wasn't too impressed with this scrub. Upon opening the pouch, I really had to squeeze to get any of the product out. It has a nice herbal, mint scent to it and it sugar crystals were really fine. There was an unexpected lather to it, which was nice, since I didn't have to use much of the scrub to wash my face. I did feel like it left my skin a bit dry after I washed it off, and I didn't really notice a big difference in my skin tone (especially compared to the Glamglow mask). This is pretty much a no for me, I like my St. Ives Apricot scrub better.
From the website:
If you want a delicious way to eliminate the dry, chapped, flaking skin on your lips, Sara Happ The Lip Scrub is the perfect way to go. It leaves your lips softer and smoother than you've ever experienced. Used and loved by starts like Tori Spelling, Jessica Simpson, and Reese Witherspoon and touted in The Zoe Report, Allure, and Glamour, this exfoliating and conditioning scrubs was developed just for your lips -- nothing bu kissable, sensuous, puckers from now on!
This lip scrub smelled so nice! Delicious almond scent hits you when you take the top off. I've used a couple of lip scrubs before and this didn't really stand out over the other ones. I think prolonged use may prove different though with the added jojoba seed oil. The great thing is you need very little product per use so this will last you a while. The sugar crystals dissolve after a bit so its gentle enough to use on an every day or every other day basis. According to the instructions you just need to wipe off the product with a tissue after you're done, but I felt like it left a bit of a sticky residue to it, so I followed up with a bit of water. My lips felt smooth and soft afterwards and I didn't have any flaking issues the next day.
Overall not a bad product! I think if you're looking for a lip scrub this is a pretty good buy. You'll be able to use the product for a while, so you'll really get your money worth.
