modern day audrey

i was going through and cleaning up/renaming all the blog labels when i accidentally hit the "Revert to Draft" button for a good chunk of my earlier art posts. i was just going to republish them with the old date, but thought maybe it be nice to reshare now that the blog is going somewhere (meaning, people other than bf and friends are looking at it lol). so i'll be sharing some old but goodies over the next couple of months. don't worry, this won't interfere with my january promise. i'll still put out at least one new creative piece every month. :)

this charcoal is really one of my favorites, and i often think of it as proof that i need to find some sort of way to quit my job or work from home. i created this about 5 or 6 years ago, after i desperately quit my job and was unemployed for a good (and scary) month. it really gave me the time and most importantly, the energy, to create something of this magnitude again. sadly, i haven't really put out anything of this caliber since then. i started something similar almost a year ago, but didn't really make it past the sketching stage. while i finished the audrey piece in a couple of days, the only reason i was able to was because i had the time. the reality of it is that the sketching took a good six or seven hours on its own, and then the charcoal piece was probably more than eight.

p.s. if you didn't know, that's natalie portman portraying audrey hepburn, both fantastically classy and amazing woman.
